Do you feel ordinary? Not feeling special? Worried that you won’t be successful?
People falsely believe that becoming extraordinary is due to luck, or people were born that way, or had a set of circumstances in their favour. This might be true for a small segment of people, but the rest of us have to work at being extraordinary.
Let's bust the myth.
Truth 🔥: To be EXTRAordinary, you need to do something extra repeatedly. And it’s not much as you might think.
Here's an example:
Jerry Seinfeld shared his process of joke writing in his Netflix special, Jerry Before Seinfeld. He reflects on his comedic journey sharing how he wrote one joke every day. There is a visual of him sitting in a street amidst the scattered pages of jokes demonstrating his dedication to his craft. One joke a day seems like nothing, but this action repeated creates an extensive body of work over a lifetime plus it's a level of practice that is unmatched.
Seinfeld used a simple habit-building technique to become one of the most successful comedians of all time. In the beginning, he was an ordinary comedian, but practicing writing one joke a day made him EXTRAordinary!
You can be extraordinary too!
Here are 5 categories with examples of how can move from ordinary to extraordinary:
1️⃣ Leadership
Spend 5 minutes each day journaling about one leadership decision you made. What went well, what didn’t, what did you learn. Do this for month and notice what happens within you. Do this for a year? Woah! Can you imagine the results? (I have hunch your self-awareness as a leader will rise.)
OR
Reach out to one colleague or team member to ask a thoughtful question or offer encouragement. It builds connection and influence that can accelerate career growth.
2️⃣ Personal Growth & Mindset
Repeat aloud one empowering affirmation daily for a year. You’ll rewire your mindset.
3️⃣ Knowledge & Skills
Practice an activity like pushups, drawing, or coding each day. It bring you mastery.
4️⃣ Creativity & Innovation
Jot down one idea per day. I do this! I capture ideas filed under various categories in my Notes App. Now I have more ideas than I know what to do with.
5️⃣ Health & Energy
Drink an extra glass of water/ day or take a 5-minute walk daily. This small action adds up to extraordinary results.
Being EXTRAordinary is not about being special.
Being extraordinary is about finding that one small thing that you can do repeatedly over a long period of time.
Coaching Question: What is something that you would love to be extraordinary at? What small action could you start today to make that happen?
